Red Cross Not Allowed To Deliver Food

This is an outrage...

"The Homeland Security Department has requested and continues to request that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans," said Renita Hosler, spokeswoman for the Red Cross.

"Right now access is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities. We have been at the table every single day [asking for access]. We cannot get into New Orleans against their orders."

It goes on:

Though frustrated, Hosler understood the reasons. The goal is to move people out of an uninhabitable city, and relief operations might keep them there. Security is so bad that she fears feeding stations might get ransacked.

After a shamefully slow start to mobilize assistance by the Federal government....they now appear to be inhibiting the delivery of much needed assistance. It is quite obvious that moving people will be a several day effort, if not taking more than a week....and this on top of the 5 day wait already. While moving people out of the city could have been a reasonable first priority just after (or even before) the hurricane, the number one priority now is to get to stranded victims food and medical assistance immediately. And now with federal, state, and local military and law enforcement assets now deployed....couldn't they be made available to provide security to the Red Cross for aid distribution?
